Scott Patterson is one of a few Australian directors to have had films selected for official screening in both the Cannes International Film Festival and the Venice International Film Festival.

Lessons in the Language of Love screened in Un Certain Regard at the 48th Festival International du Film, Cannes and Pact screened in the Window on Images section at La Biennale di Venezia in 1996. These short films have screened in over eighty film festivals worldwide including Aspen Shortsfest, Sydney Film Festival and New Films/New Directors film festival held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Scott Patterson has also directed two feature films, A Wreck, A Tangle (2000), funded through the Australian Film Commission's Million Dollar Movie Initiative and The Crop (2003), which was privately funded with a budget of $3 million.
